If there is someone who would make lunch for any of our work parties, please contact Ingvar at sodaling@norsk.us. VAC will reimburse you for the grocery bill.

Saturdays are not the only opportunity to work at the Avalon.  We also need help during the week.  If you are free and can put in a few hours during the week, please call Chuck (303-786-8502) for the best time to meet.

Our goal is not only to build the physical infrastructure for a dance center, but also to build a community of people that will enjoy this facility and build a strong and cohesive dance community with Avalon as their base for many years to come.  Our belief is that a broad participation in the construction phase will give more people a sense of ownership and participation which will benefit the operation of the Avalon in the future.

What to bring:
Bring ordinary work clothes, gloves, hearing protection. We will have tools on hand. No tools or experience with building is needed. There will be plenty of simple tasks that will need to be done.

Please let us know if you're coming!
It would be helpful for us to know if you plan to participate so we can provide the right amount of food for lunch. You can come and go as it suits your schedule. Please send an email to Jim X at avd@columbine.net or Ingvar Sodal at sodaling@norsk.us if you plan to attend.

2005, 2006, and 2007 were busy. We demolished much of the old building interior, built a fine cushioned dance floor, hung acoustical materials, revised the air-conditioning, and generally spruced up the building and grounds. It was a tremendous amount of work, and the result is very exciting. The Avalon has already been the venue for many enjoyable dance parties and many more are planned for the new year.

But there is still much work to be done before everything is completed. We hope you will help us in the upcoming months.

Let's Help Beautify the Avalon by Contributing to the Landscaping Fund

Volunteers have worked hard in the large area outside the building. Dead trees have been cut down, noxious weeds and the very invasive Siberian Elm are on their way to elimination. Trees have been trimmed and truckloads of branches and debris hauled away. Now we need to make the outside beautiful.

At the VAC Annual meeting in November, the group said it would be appropriate and highly desirable for dance groups and for individuals to give a year-end gift to the Avalon by making a contribution to the Avalon Landscaping Fund. The money will be used in the spring to purchase trees, bushes and flowers to make the grounds of the Avalon attractive and welcoming. The front of the building needs some attractive bushes and at least one new tree. The perimeter of the property needs trees for screening. We also are talking about a small aspen grove.

Rather than going to one nursery as was discussed at the Annual meeting, it has been decided to establish a landscaping fund in the VAC accounts. Donations in any amount are welcome.. Hopefully groups and individuals will be generous. VAC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and donations are tax deductible. Please make checks payable to VAC and earmarked for AVALON LANDSCAPING. Send donations to VAC Treasurer Deborah Howard, 2995 25th Street, Boulder, CO 80304.
